AMERICA PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE
These are troubled times. Today, more and more people are experiencing feelings of anxiety when considering what the future might bring and it’s not too difficult to understand why. The world we live in today is very different from the world of just a few decades ago. Now, even America is a dangerous place to live and it’s getting more dangerous every day.
School children no longer feel safe in school; they live in fear of other students going on killing rampages. Parents no longer feel safe letting their kids walk to the store or to meet their friends for fear of kidnappers. Workplace shootings and sniper shootings are happening more and more. From burglary to rape and murder, these days, it seems an increasing number of us have been a victim of some kind of crime in this country.
Threats of nuclear, chemical and biological attacks from rogue states like North Korea and Iran are increasing and the world in general appears to be developing a strong hatred for America. All this, combined with the events of September 11, 2001, the growing threat of future attacks, the exportation of American industry and jobs to countries overseas and an economy that is held together by the excess printing and distribution of devalued dollars, is leaving people feeling more than just a bit uneasy.
Natural disasters seem to be increasing. And growing instability, especially in places like Iraq and Israel, appear to be leading the world toward apocalyptic events. So, what’s going on? A person doesn’t need to be a rocket scientist to realize that the world is growing ever more chaotic.
Could the natural disasters, increasing world tensions and conflicts, be labor pains; signaling the approach of end time events? Is the world about to undergo a major transformation? Just what does the future hold for this planet?
There are many different theories as to what the future will bring, but only one reality. The future was foretold thousands of years ago by the Old Testament prophets, and by the Lord Jesus Christ himself. By examining America’s history, in the light of the prophecies recorded in the Bible, we get a clear picture of where we are in God’s timeline of events for this age and what the very near future will bring.
Approximately 700 years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah, prophesied and wrote of the Savior’s birth and coming kingdom on Earth. We find his prophesies in the Old Testament book that was named after the prophet, the book of Isaiah. In chapter 9, verse 6 & 7, Isaiah proclaimed: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
It is truly amazing how the “Living Word of God” foretold, with absolute certainty, the coming birth of the Savior 700 years before it happened! It’s also amazing how the Lord’s birth is central to the writing. It was written to be read as a prophetic prediction before the advent happened. It was also written to be read as a statement of fact after it happened. However, the part about the government being on His shoulder was written only in the future tense; it was written only to be read as a future event. But, make no mistake about it, the government will be on His shoulder; it just hasn’t happened yet. Like the part about the Savior’s birth, this part of the prophecy was also written as an absolute fact that will happen.
In the New Testament book of Acts, after the crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, we read how Jesus Himself instructed His disciples to prepare the world for His coming kingdom. Chapter one verse 1-11: The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
So, what does all this have to do with the good old US of A? Is it possible that God established America to provide a safe haven for Christians so the gospel of Jesus Christ could be preached to the end of the earth by those who have received the promise of the Holy Spirit? And could all this have been done in preparation for His coming Kingdom?
When studying the true history of America, the history that is no longer found in public school textbooks, we find that the hand of God was involved in every aspect of the founding of America. It began with the call of God on Christopher Columbus (a man who also received the promise of the Holy Spirit and was a witness for Christ). The following are entries from the log of Christopher Columbus:
“It was the Lord who put into my mind, I could feel his hand upon me, the fact that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies. All who heard of my project rejected it with laughter, ridiculing me. There is no question that the inspiration is from the Holy Spirit, because he comforted me with rays of marvelous inspiration from the Holy Scriptures. I am a most unworthy sinner, I have cried out to the Lord for grace and mercy and they have covered me completely. I have found the sweetest consolations since I have made it my whole purpose to enjoy his marvelous presence.
For the execution of the journey to the Indies I did not make use of intelligence, mathematics, or maps, it is simply the fulfillment of what Isaiah had prophesied. No one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Savior, if it is just, and if the intention is purely for his Holy service. The working out of all things has been assigned to each person by our Lord, but it all happens according to his Sovran will. And then day by day, moment by moment, everyone should express their most devoted gratitude to Him.”
Further evidence of God’s involvement in the founding of America can be found in the account of George Washington at the Battle of Monongahela that was in public school textbooks until 1934. During the French & Indian War, George Washington fought alongside British General Edward Braddock. On July 9, 1755, the British were on the way to Fort Duquesne when the French surprised them in an ambush attack. The British, who were not accustomed to fighting unless in an open field, were being annihilated. Washington rode back and forth across the battle delivering General Braddock’s orders. As the battle raged, every other officer on horseback, except Washington, was shot down. Even General Braddock was killed, at which point the troops fled in confusion.
After the battle, on July 18, 1755, Washington wrote to his brother, John A. Washington: “But by the all-powerful dispensations of providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”
Fifteen years later, Washington and Dr. Craik, a close friend of his from his youth, were traveling through those same woods near the Ohio River and Great Kanawha River. They were met by an old Indian chief who addressed Washington through an interpreter: “I am a chief and ruler over my tribes. My influence extends to the waters of the great lakes and to the far blue mountains. I have traveled a long and weary path that I might see the young warrior of the great battle.
It was on the day when the white man’s blood mixed with the streams of our forests that I first beheld this chief (referring to Washington). I called to my young men and said, mark yon tall and daring warrior? He is not of the red-coat tribe – he hath an Indian’s wisdom, and his warriors fight as we do – himself alone exposed. Quick, let your aim be certain, and he dies. Our rifles were leveled, rifles which, but for you, knew not how to miss – ‘twas all in vain, a power mightier far than we, shielded you. Seeing you were under the special guardianship of the Great Spirit, we immediately ceased to fire at you. I am old and soon shall be gathered to the great council fire of my fathers in the land of shades, but ere I go, there is something bids me speak in the voice of prophecy.
Listen! The Great Spirit protects that man (pointing to Washington), and guides his destinies - he will become the chief of nations, and a people yet unborn will hail him as the founder of a mighty empire. I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle. Washington was never born to be killed by a bullet! I had fired seventeen fair fires at him with my rifle, and after all could not bring him to the ground!
As the hand of God protected George Washington during the French & Indian War, it also protected him and his troops from the British during the War of Independence. On August 27, 1776, British General Howe had trapped General Washington and his 8,000 troops on Brooklyn Heights, Long Island, intending to advance the next morning to crush them. In a desperate move, Washington gathered every vessel, from fishing boats to row boats, and spent all night ferrying his army across the East River. When the morning came, there was still a large number of his troops dangerously exposed to the British, but in a most unusual change in weather, the fog did not lift from the river. It stayed thick, covering Washington’s retreat until the entire army had evacuated and escaped!
Never again did the British have such a rare chance of winning the war. Major Ben Tallmadge, who was Washington’s Chief of Intelligence, wrote of that morning: “As the dawn of the next day approached, those of us who remained in the trenches became very anxious for our own safety, and when the dawn appeared there were several regiments still on duty. At this time a very dense fog began to rise (out of the ground and off the river), and it seemed to settle in a peculiar manner over both encampments. I recollect this peculiar providential occurrence perfectly well, and so very dense was the atmosphere that I could scarcely discern a man at six yards distance.... we tarried until the sun had risen, but the fog remained as dense as ever.”
Looking back at the early settlements, one can’t help but notice that the colonies were settled by men and women who held deep religious convictions. They were people who also received the promise of the Holy Spirit and were witnesses for Christ. They were people who, in the seventeenth century, crossed the Atlantic Ocean to escape religious persecution; state sponsored religious persecution. They came to America to practice true Christianity. They came to be witnesses for Christ to the ends of the Earth.
There is no doubt, God did establish the United States as a refuge for believers in Christ; a place of liberty from where the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and His coming kingdom, could be freely proclaimed to the World. And America has, over the last 200+ years, fulfilled the Great Commission given by Jesus. Spirit filled men and women have gone into the entire world and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ and proclaimed His coming Kingdom. The United States has sent more Christian missionaries “to the ends of the Earth” than all other countries of the world combined.
Going back to the Bible, Psalm 33:12 states: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. What a true statement! From its very founding, America has been truly blessed of God. As a Christian nation, the United States, in less than 200 years, became the greatest nation on the face of the Earth. America led the world in food production, manufacturing and technology. There is no other nation on Earth whose citizens have experienced the liberty and prosperity that American’s have enjoyed.
Before the 1960s, people from every nation on the globe wanted to come to America; they wanted to become Americans. America was the envy of the world! America was good; always first in line to help those in need. The United States has given more aid to countries in need, both financially and with food and other necessities, than all other countries combined. To this day, Americans still give over 300 billion dollars a year to charities. But America has changed.
The Falling Away from God
What happened? Why has America changed so much? Why has the U.S. gone from requiring our leaders to be Christian, to preventing some (federal judges) from taking office if they are Christian, and removing them from public office if they acknowledge God? Why are lawsuits being filed to remove “Christian” symbols from public view? Why are Christians being denied their right to publicly express their religious views? Why, in just the last 50 years, has such a great falling away from God taken place? Answers to these questions are found in the Bible.
We already saw in the book of Isaiah that God’s plan is for Jesus to set up His kingdom on Earth. However, Isaiah also foretold how Satan would try to foil God’s plan and establish his own kingdom on Earth. He also foretold how the devil would be cast down to the Earth and then into the pit after he weakens the nations, destroys the cities of the world, and tries to exalt his throne above God.
Isaiah, in chapter 14, verses 12-15, prophesied saying: How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof. Isaiah was referring to what will take place just before Jesus returns to set up His Kingdom.
In 2 Thessalonians chapter 2, verse 3, the Apostle Paul told the Christians at Thessalonica that the mystery of lawlessness was already working in the world. The mystery of lawlessness is Satan’s spiritual influence working to lead mankind away from God and to destruction. Consider what Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10-12 say. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
In an attempt to expose this “mystery of lawlessness,” and put things in proper perspective, consider the following example. Think about hypnosis. Thousands of people get hypnotized for many different reasons, some to quit smoking, others to bring back memories or to conquer fears. I can remember watching people on television who were hypnotized and doing things that the hypnotist had instructed them to do. Most of us, especially in this day and age, have either been hypnotized or have watched someone who has.
If one person can hypnotize others, causing them to do things they would not normally do, then it stands to reason that the powers and spiritual rulers of darkness spoken of in Ephesians chapter 6 can also influence people; causing them to think a certain way or do and say things they normally wouldn’t. The Bible, in 2 Corinthians chapter 4, reaffirms that these principalities do indeed have power over the human mind. Verse 3&4 state: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
There are those who don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God, but they might not be convinced that the god of this world (Satan) has blinded their minds to this truth. So, consider another piece of evidence that reveals the influence this demonic being has on people. Have you ever heard anyone blurt out Buddha’s or Mohammed’s name in vain? I doubt it; but how about the name “Jesus Christ?” I won’t ask if you’ve ever heard anyone use the Lord’s name in vain but what I will ask is this, how many people do you know (over the age of 12) that have never used the Lord’s name in vain? Personally, I don’t believe most people even realize it when they say God’s name in vain. The unseen spiritual influence that causes a person to use the Lord’s name in vain is similar to the hypnotist that plants a subconscious suggestion into a person’s mind that causes them to do something they were not planning to do.
This wicked influence not only blinds people’s minds to the gospel of Jesus Christ, it causes some to hate Christianity and leads many toward lawlessness. It causes people to be deceived and to deceive others. The Bible says; in 2 John verse 7: For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. It also states in 2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
It’s the deceptions and lies from evil men that are causing America to fall away from God. Over the last 50+ years, these people have led the attack to remove America’s Christian heritage through wicked organizations like the ACLU, “The American Civil Liberties Union.” By looking at the number of lawsuits filed against Christianity by the ACLU, it would appear that their main mission is to remove Christianity from our nation.
The Bible says in John chapter 3, verses 18-20: He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
This explains why the ACLU hates the light of truth, and why they are trying to remove it from society, it’s because their deeds are evil. They may believe they are doing good but, because they are deceived, they attack that which is good and protect that which is harmful. They file lawsuits to prevent nativity scenes from being displayed at Christmas and to silence the singing of “Joy to the World” in public schools. Yet, at the same time, they protect pornography and the demonically inspired lyrics found in rock music.
The lie of “Separation of Church and State” that’s being used to prevent people from expressing their religious beliefs publicly is another good example of the deceptions that come from these deceivers. They twist and misuse the separation clause found in the First Amendment of the Constitution to claim reference to God can not be made on public property, in Government facilities or public schools. They say that a government employee personally mentioning God on public property equates to state sponsored religion. They also claim the founding fathers wanted government to be totally separated from the influence of religion. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a deceptive and fraudulent interpretation of the First Amendment.
When examining the documents of America’s true history, the evidence reveals that the original intent of the First Amendment was the exact opposite of this view. The original intent was to ensure that every denomination of Christianity had the freedom to publicly express their religious views. It was to ensure that state sponsored religious persecution, which was taking place in Europe at that time, would not happen in America.
The First Amendment was added to the Constitution on December 15, 1791, along with nine other amendments which together compose “The Bill of Rights”. The first Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
When a person makes reference to God, whether they’re a government employee or a student in a public school, they are not acting as congress making a law that would establish or prohibit a religion. They are just exercising their freedom of speech. They’re exercising their freedom to publicly express their religious beliefs; the same freedom that congress can never make a law to prohibit. It can not be stated any clearer than that. But, if we the people are not willing to stand-up and preserve our rights, the rights we’ve been guaranteed by The Bill of Rights, then the forces of darkness will be more than happy to take them away.
The true intent of the First Amendment can be clearly seen in the earlier Constitution of the State of Massachusetts in 1780. Part 1, Article III: “And every denomination of Christians, demeaning themselves peaceably, and as good subjects of the commonwealth, shall be equally under the protection of the law: and no subordination of any sect or denomination to another shall ever be established by law.”
It’s interesting to note that the following was also part of that same 1780 Massachusetts Constitution: “The Governor shall be Chosen annually; and no person shall be eligible to this office, unless, at the time of his election…he shall declare himself to be of the Christian religion.”
Contrary to the evil lie of “Separation of Church and State,” Christianity, from the beginning of our great nation, was an intricate part of all state Governments. The following are just a few of the Articles that can be found in early State Constitutions.
Article XXII of The Constitution of the State of Delaware 1776 stated: “Every person who shall be chosen a member of either house, or appointed to any office or place of trust… shall... make... and subscribe the following declaration, “I,_________, do profess faith in God the Father, and Jesus Christ His only Son, and in the Holy Ghost, one God, blessed for evermore; I do acknowledge the holy scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be given by divine inspiration.”
The Constitution of the State of Pennsylvania 1776: “We the people of Pennsylvania, grateful to Almighty God for the blessings of civil and religious liberty, and humbly invoke His guidance, do ordain and establish this Constitution… Frame of Government, Section 10: And each member (of the legislature), before he takes his seat, shall make and subscribe the following declaration: “I do believe in one God, the Creator and Governour of the universe, the rewarder of the good and punisher of the wicked, and I do acknowledge the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be given by divine Inspiration.”
The Constitution of the State of New York 1777: “The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, with out discrimination or preference, shall forever hereafter be allowed, within this State, to all mankind: Provided, that the liberty of conscience, hereby granted, shall not be so construed as to excuse acts of licentiousness.”
It was the great Revolutionary leader Patrick Henry who spoke those famous words: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” Patrick Henry also made another statement, one that’s not often mentioned these days, he said: “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionist, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”
John Wingate Thorton, in his book “The Pulpit of the American Revolution” in 1860 wrote: “The highest glory of the American Revolution, said John Quincy Adams, was this: it connected, in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”
The evidence of America’s Godly heritage is as clear as a bell, yet, using the lie of “Separation of Church and State,” evil men, themselves blind and deceived by the forces of darkness, are removing our Christian heritage. This is also clear evidence as to the incredible ability of these principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness, to blind the minds of the general public.
As already mentioned, before 1960, America was the envy of the world. Then on June 25, 1962, a deceived judge, in a court case called Engel v. Vitale, removed prayer from public schools. The court ruled that the prayer in question mentioned God, one time, and was therefore unconstitutional. It is interesting to note that the Declaration of Independence mentions God four times. Does that ruling also make the “Declaration of Independence” unconstitutional and prohibit it from appearing in public schools?
That case was just the beginning of a deliberate and ongoing effort to remove Christianity from America; and they are using our own court system to accomplish their goals. On June 17, 1963, in the case Abington v. Schempp, the court removed the Bible from schools. The court explanation, “If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could be and had been psychologically harmful to the child.”
Then, in 1980, the court removed the “Ten Commandments” from schools. The court explanation: “If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to have any effect at all, it would be to induce the school children to read, meditate upon, perhaps to venerate and obey, the Commandments. This is not a permissible objective.” Think about that statement for a moment! It’s not permissible to encourage school children to obey the Ten Commandments; commandments like Honor your father and mother, you shall not kill and you shall not steal.
That court should have been put on trial for treason. Why, because James Madison, who was the fourth president of the United States, and also known as the “Chief Architect of the Constitution,” said in 1778: “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to Ten Commandments of God.”
These same courts protect the demonically inspired lyrics found in rock music. Lyrics that inspire young people to disobey their parents, take drugs, kill, rape and murder. Could this be one of the reasons why massacres are taking place in public schools and why our prisons are over crowded? Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil! Isaiah 5:20.
And yet, the efforts to remove Christianity from our nation continue. Today, many of the Democrats in Congress are refusing to vote, denying conformation of judges who are Christian and have been nominated to the federal bench. And recently in the State of Alabama, Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore was removed from office for honoring his oath of office to acknowledge God in his court. Judge Moore was elected because of his promise to acknowledge God in his court, and was then removed from office after refusing to obey an order from a federal judge to remove a statue of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse.
It seems ironic that it was John Jay who, on October 12, 1816, admonished: “Providence has given to our people the Choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”
John Jay was the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, having been appointed by President George Washington. John Jay was a Founding Father, a member of the First, and Second, Continental Congresses and served as the President of the Continental Congress. He was very instrumental in causing the Constitution to be ratified, by writing the Federalist Papers, along with James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. In 1777, John Jay also helped write the Constitution of New York, and from 1795-1801 held the position of Governor of the State of New York.
In his Last Will and Testament, John Jay wrote: “Unto Him who is the author and giver of all good, I render sincere and humble thanks for His merciful and unmerited blessings, and especially for our redemption and salvation by His Beloved Son.”
The United States of America was founded by Christians as a Christian nation, but our history is now being rewritten and our great heritage is being removed. The fact that America, as a nation, is falling away from God just means that the return of Jesus is very near. He is coming back and the government will be on His shoulders. And, it should not come as too big of a shock that America is falling away from God. After all, this too was predicted in the Bible.
The Apostle Paul, in his second letter to the Thessalonians, speaking of the return of Christ, said this: Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first. Since America’s falling away from God is part of the fulfillment of Paul’s prediction about the return of Christ, we need to look at Paul’s complete statement. In chapter 2 of 2 Thessalonians, it states: Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
With the “falling away” now taking place, the man of sin will soon be revealed! However, he will not be revealed until the one holding back his appearance is taken out of the way. Paul told the Thessalonians that the “mystery of iniquity” was already at work; only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that wicked will be revealed.
The Hope of the Resurrection
Paul also told the Thessalonians, in verse 6, that they knew what was holding him back. He told them they knew what was holding him back because he had already explained how the Christians would be taken out of the way. Going back to the first book of Thessalonians, Paul told them in chapter four that the Christians would be gathered together to meet the Lord in the air. Verses 16 and 17 state; For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
He then goes on in chapter 5: But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
It will not overtake the Christians as a thief because they will be partakers. Before the destruction comes, and before the man of sin is revealed, the Lord will remove all those who have been redeemed. That’s why Paul goes on to say in verses 9 and 10, For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
The Last Seven Years
Then, because the Christians, those who have received the promise of the Holy Spirit, have stepped out of the way, the man of sin will be revealed. He will appear on the scene and confirm an agreement with many for seven years. Daniel 9:27 says: And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week. The “week” spoken of in this verse is a seven year period of time. We know it is seven years because the verse goes on to say: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. And, Daniel 12:11 says: And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. (3 1/2 years)
It’s at this midpoint in the seven year period when the man of sin will oppose and exalt himself above all that is called God, and will sit in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God, as we saw in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2.
The Future of the United States
So how does the United States fit into all this and what does the future hold for the US? Like Israel, America was founded by God for a special purpose. But, like Israel, can America expect any less judgment from God than what Israel received when she, as a nation, rejected the Lord Jesus Christ? As a nation, the U.S. is no longer willing to publicly embrace Jesus Christ as Lord. As a nation, the U.S. now denies the Lordship of Jesus Christ and publicly embraces evil; just like Israel did. This will bring the judgment of God; just as it did for Israel!
Just before the man of sin confirms the covenant with the many for seven years, who are the ones that will not escape when they say peace and safety? Who are the ones that will face sudden destruction as labor pains upon a pregnant woman when the Christians meet the Lord in the air? The following is one possible scenario.
We saw in 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 3 that they’ll be saying “peace and safety” when the sudden destruction comes. It seems very likely that a peace agreement for the Middle East will be announced before the seven year period begins. But, before the plan is implemented, the man of sin, from behind the scene through sinister schemes, will cause war in the Middle East and other parts of the world; possibly even the destruction or downfall of the ones who developed and negotiated the peace agreement.
Then, because of the terrible wars taking place, and because the ones who developed and negotiated the agreement (the same ones that have always been Israel’s protection) will no longer be in a position to protect them and unable to implement the agreement, and because the one holding back the man of sin will have also stepped out of the way, (the rapture of the church – Christians removed; they meet the Lord in the air), the man of sin will be revealed.
He will appear on the scene and stop the destruction. He will step in and fill the void that was left by the destruction and will confirm the covenant with many for seven years, thus, beginning the seven year count down to the Lord’s return. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the man of sin developed or negotiated the covenant only that he confirms it. He will be seen and received as a peace maker. He will receive credit for stopping the very destruction that, in reality, will have been caused by him.
With this scenario in mind, take a look at Daniel chapter 8, verse 23-26. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
Whether you believe this scenario or not makes no difference. The point is this: Jesus is coming back and He will setup His kingdom here on Earth. During the last 3 ½ years, just before He returns to set up His kingdom, the Bible says: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Matthew 24:21&22.
Today, there are many who scoff at the thought of Jesus actually coming back. This too was predicted in the Bible, 2 Peter 3:3-4: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. Skipping down to verse 8 & 9: But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
So, when exactly will Jesus return? Jesus said: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:36-39
The Day of the Lord will come and it appears that it will come very soon! 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. This describes the day in which we live perfectly!
Just what the future holds for America is uncertain; the Bible does not mention America by name. We do know from Daniel, chapter 8, that the man of sin will destroy the mighty and those in prosperity. He will also kill those who become Christians during that time. This is confirmed in Revelation 13:7: And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. If America is still around, she too will fall under the authority and rule of the antichrist. Verse 8 goes on to say: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. Moving down to verse 16 we are told: And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Everyone who receives the “mark” will be sealing their own fate with eternal damnation. In the next chapter, chapter 14, verse 9-11 tells us: And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
People who have been blessed with a chance to hear and receive the truth and do not receive it before Jesus rescues the Christians from the coming judgment are highly unlikely to receive it during the judgment. Now, the love of God and salvation through Jesus Christ is offered as a free gift. There is no penalty for receiving it and it offers safe haven from the coming tribulation. After the Christians have been removed and the man of sin comes to power it will cost a person everything to become a Christian.
Those who have heard and rejected the truth might not even have a chance to receive it after the judgment begins. We already saw in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 verse 9-12 that: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Jesus could return and remove the Christians at any moment. People need to believe in Jesus before it is too late. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians chapter 6, verse 2: Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. God loves us and wants everyone to receive the free gift of salvation. He offers forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who believe in the work that Jesus did for mankind. Jesus came down from Heaven, lived a sinless life, and then willingly laid down his own life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. John 15:13 says: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
The price that was paid was a high price indeed and the only requirement for mankind is to believe and receive. We just need to believe what the Bible teaches. We must believe that we, as individuals, are all sinners. Ecclesiastes chapter seven verse 20 tells us: For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Romans 3:23 says: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Have YOU ever used God’s name in vain, disobeyed your parents, told a lie or stolen anything? If you are being honest, your answer will be yes and the bible teaches that there is only one way your sin debt can be paid. Romans 6:23 states: For the wages of sin is death! Romans 5:12 says: Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
God’s Plan for Salvation
There is, however, good news. Romans 6:23 said: For the wages of sin is death; (but the verse goes on to say) but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:8 says: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:19 says: For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. And John 3:16&17 state: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
If you understand that because of your sin, you are not good enough to go to Heaven, and believe Jesus paid the penalty for your sin by sacrificing Himself to die on the cross, you can be saved. But, you must also believe God raised Him from the dead and that He will hear, and answer, your cry for mercy.
John 1:12 says: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. The Word of God also gives clear instructions how to receive Him. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13.
There is no other way we can be saved. Jesus, speaking in John 14:6 said: I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Acts 4:12 says: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. First Timothy 2:5 states: For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Jesus said in John Chapter 6, verse 37: All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
We must conclude that salvation comes to those who are sorry for their sin; to those who believe and confess to God that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for their sin, and that he rose from the dead. We must also conclude that Jesus saves those who believe and confess by baptizing them with the Holy Spirit. Acts 22:16 says: And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Did you get that? What are you waiting for? Take action, and be baptized (with the Holy Spirit), and wash away your sins. How? Calling on the name of the Lord!
When I became a Christian, I had no intention of getting religion or changing my ways. I did believe the Bible was the Word of God, and that Jesus is the Son of God, but other than that, I had not given the subject much thought.
It was a cold Saturday night in February 1982. I was sitting home watching TV when there was a knock at the door. I opened the door to find two men standing there. One of them politely introduced himself as a pastor and told me that he was starting a new church in the area. He then invited me to attend Sunday services. It was a little out of character for me, but I politely said no thanks I’m not interested. Normally, I would have just shut the door. They told me to have a good evening and started to turn to walk away. Then the pastor stopped, turned back toward me as I was closing the door, and said: Could I ask one more quick question before we go? I said sure.
He asked me if I knew for sure where I would spend eternity if I died that night. I thought about it for a moment and said: I’m a pretty good guy. I haven’t hurt anyone; I’d probably go to Heaven. He said: if I could show you in the Bible how you can know for sure that you will go to heaven when you die, would you be interested? I said: you can show me how I can know for sure? Ok, show me.
The preacher began by showing me Bible verses that say every person in the world is a sinner and that the penalty for sin is death. Then he asked me if I have ever sinned. I knew it was a loaded question but I was honest enough with him (and myself) to admit that yes I am a sinner. He then asked if I still thought I was good enough to go to Heaven.
After thinking about those truths, that I am a sinner and the penalty for sin is death, I realized I was guilty and there was nothing I could do to save myself. I became sorry for my sin and fearful of the judgment of God. It is interesting to note that Proverbs 1:7 teaches: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, and Psalm 111:10 states: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.
He then showed me Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. He read Romans 5:8 that said: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. And John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He asked if I believed Jesus died for my sin and the sins of the world. I said yes, I do.
He continued with Romans 10:9 & 10: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. After reading those verses, he looked at me and asked if I would be willing to confess to God, through prayer, that I believe. Out of fear for my own soul, I said yes. He led me in prayer and I confessed to God that I am a sinner and that I believe Jesus died for my sin. I asked Him to forgive my sin and save me.
When we finished praying, the preacher asked me to read Romans 10:13 aloud. I read: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Then he asked me if I called on the name of the Lord. When I said yes, he said: so are you saved? After thinking about it for a moment, I realized that I did what the Bible said to do to be saved, so, according to the Bible, I’m saved! He told me that because I believed the promise of Romans 10:13, I was now saved. Then he read Ephesians 2:8&9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
I must admit that it was, and still is to this day, a very good feeling knowing that my salvation is not depending on how good I am, but what Jesus did for me. But like I said in the beginning, I wasn’t looking for, or intending to get, religion so I went on living the same way I did before I got saved. But things were different; I found myself thinking about God, Jesus, and the Bible. I didn’t fully understand what had happened but I knew I was different; it was like I could feel God’s presence in my life. It also caught my attention and bothered me every time someone used the Lord’s name in vain.
After that, I was filled with a desire to find out what really did happen, and why! Knowing that according to the Bible I was now saved, I started reading the Bible and going to church. The more I read the scriptures, prayed and went to church, the more I could feel God’s presence in my life. I began to see and understand what happened to me. I also started to see Gods presence in the world and His plan for mankind.
I do not take credit for what I now know to be true. The only reason I know anything is because of the Holy Spirit of God that, since I was saved, now lives in me. He, the Holy Spirit, now teaches me all things through the Word of God.
At this point, some people may think all this is just my imagination. But before making that judgment, let me offer the Bible verses that give a complete and detailed explanation of exactly what happened to me. I do not expect people to understand or believe my story, but my hope is that they will believe God’s explanation; the explanation found in the Bible.
The Bible explains exactly what happened to me in Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. 2 Corinthians 5:17 states: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
In just the New Testament, the word “Spirit” and “Holy Ghost” are mentioned 383 times in 184 articles. The following are just a few. Acts 15:7-9: And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
Romans 8:9-11 says: But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
This is not just something I believe in; I know that I am a child of God and that I have been given the gift of eternal life! How do I know? Romans 8:16&17: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
What happened to me gives testimony to what Jesus told his followers in Acts chapter 1 after He rose from the dead, and just before He ascended into Heaven. It also bears witness that what He told His followers then still applies to His followers to this day! He told them in verse 5: For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. He went on to tell them in Verse 8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Now, I too am a witness for Christ, and the testimony I share is good news. God still offers forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life to everyone who will receive it! If He was willing to save me, He will save all who call on His name.
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal savior, bow your head and pray to God. Confess that you are guilty of sin. Confess that you believe Jesus died on the cross as payment for your sin and that He rose from the dead. Ask him to be your Savior. Receive Him now. The Day of the Lord is at hand; it could come at any moment!
Consider 2 Peter 2:4-9: For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.
Luke chapter 21 verses 34-36 says: And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
John 20:31 says: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. Do you believe the promise of Romans 10:13 that: whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved? If your answer is yes, bow your head right now and pray these words: Dear Jesus, I do believe that you came into the world and died on the cross as payment for my sin, and I believe you rose from the dead. Please forgive my sin; please come into my heart and save me. Thank You Dear God for saving me.
The Lord has been adding citizens to His coming eternal kingdom throughout history; and the good news is he’s still adding more. If you just prayed that prayer, Ephesians 2:8&9 say: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For the Christian, the victory has already been won! The future is secure! First John 5:11-13 says: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
First Corinthians 12:13 says: For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Praise God!
The Battle is Raging
As for the United States of America, there is a battle raging for the soul of our nation. The attacks on our Christian heritage and freedom of religious expression are increasing at a feverish pace.
We must never lose sight of the fact that the U.S. was founded by God for His great purpose; that she has been a “Christian” nation from the beginning. The lie of separation of church and state and removal of our Christian heritage is destroying our nation.
There is only one way these truths will be known; Christians must declare them. As for me, like our founding fathers, I will stand-up and proclaim the truth. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. Romans 1:16.
What about you; do you believe these truths? If so, are you willing to stand with me and proclaim them to our nation? Christian, are you letting your light shine by faithfully proclaiming the truth? If not, you need to repent. James 4:17 says: Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
If you are being faithful, you will be rewarded. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. Jesus said in the last chapter of the last book of the Bible: And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
The kingdom of God is coming! One glance at Israel and the middle-east, in the light of God’s Word, reveals the approaching time of trouble that will come first. For this cause, Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:10.
And to you who are troubled (by what is taking place in our nation and the world) rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed ) in that day. Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-12.
And the last 2 verses in the Bible say: He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
